Who Can Volunteer | What our Volunteers Say | Benefit of Volunteering with kidsonthego | If You are Interested | Our Supporters

If you enjoy driving and like kids put yourself in the driver seat. Be a part of facskidsonthego.

facskidsonthego is a volunteer driver program for children and youth who receive services from Family & Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region. These will be children and youth who may be in the care of the agency due to abuse or neglect or may remain living with their families and receiving support from the agency.

Volunteer drivers may be working on school or day care driving assignments. They may also be driving children or youth to family access visits, appointments or programs. During the summer there are summer camp driving assignments.

Volunteers may drive once a month, a week or a day, depending on their availability. The need for drivers is for evening and weekend. Most of the assignments are in Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge and the outlying areas of Waterloo Region.

Who can volunteer?
If you have a clean driving record, a vehicle in good working order, and carry one million in liability insurance on your vehicle, you can drive for facskidsonthego. If you work during the day consider volunteering in the early morning before work, or in the late afternoon or evening or on a weekend. If you work shifts we will have assignments that can work with your schedule. If you are retired this is a wonderful way to help families in your community.

Here is what some volunteers have to say about the program:

“I am involved because I know the agency has a big job to do and I want to help. I am just sorry I only heard about this after I retired, I could have been involved earlier.”

“It gets me out of the house to do something worthwhile. I love working with the kids.”

“It is rewarding when a child asks you “will you always be my driver?”

“Sometimes we have sing songs in the car. Some children have drawn pictures for me to say thanks.”

“I knew I wanted a volunteer position where I would be out and about and not stuck behind a desk. I love it.”
