Canadian Arab Women Association
2021 was an incredible year for Canadian Arab Women Association (CAWA). For the first time, the organization has been able to hire paid staff. As a result, CAWA has increased its programs and services drastically over the last couple of months and will continue to do so in 2022. Of course, the main focus remains on accessible, Arabic language programming and services for Arab women and their families in Waterloo Region and Guelph. Right now, the programs are running virtually, though CAWA has been able to offer some events in-person, as well in the last months.
CAWA is offering two programs right now, Strong Families Together and WorkPro.
Strong Families Together is a program which aims to raise awareness about domestic violence, and educate Arab women about resources in the community, and inform them on topics like parenting, healthy relationships and family law. The program is offered in partnership with Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region.
WorkPro is CAWA’s employment program. This Arabic-language program for women is offered every 3 months, and prepares participants for the Canadian job market. The program focuses on practical skills like creating a resume, preparing for an interview, whilst also educating women on their rights in the work place and Canadian work culture.
