Family & Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region is a community organization legally mandated to respond to and work together with families, their supports, and our communities to protect and care for children who have been abused or neglected, or who are at risk of being abused or neglected.

To continue to support the work that we do, the Agency is looking for a full-time Legal Services Director to join our team.

The Legal Services Director is a key member of the leadership team and provides legal advice and strategic guidance to the Agency in the areas of child protection, privacy and associated legislation. This role is responsible for maintaining the Agency’s legal department and ensuring appropriate legal representation is available on a broad range of legal areas and acts as the Agency Privacy Officer and is responsible for compliance with obligations under Part X.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • LLB plus 5 years’ experience in child protection litigation in a Children’s Aid Society
  • Knowledge in Privacy Legislation a key asset
  • Superior written and oral communications
  • Strong grounding in Equity and Truth and Reconciliation frameworks in child welfare
  • Ability to support the philosophical and service direction of the organization
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to collaborate within and external to the organization
  • Ability to work outside of regular office hours and work flexible hours, as required

Salary Range:

$104,722.18 - $132,034.24 per annum

Management & Excluded Grade 16
